Members of Norfolk Business Board joined an EEEGR (East of England Energy Group) delegation to the House of Commons to highlight the need for Government backing for wind farm projects in the region.
Lowestoft MP Jess Asato hosted the reception on Wednesday 30 April which saw a 200-strong group travel to capital to lobby on a range of issues, including unlocking investment for offshore wind projects, approving Sizewell C nuclear power station, and supporting Bacton in becoming a hydrogen and carbon capture storage hub.
With wind farms off the coast of East Anglia set to power almost 20m homes in the UK by 2035, representing a third of the country's offshore wind output, East Anglia is positioning itself to be a leader in clean energy production and the UK's transition to renewable energy.
The message delivered by the industry to Energy Secretary David Miliband is that the right support and collaboration from Government can deliver 20,000 news jobs and innovative businesses, as well as leading the charge towards energy security and net zero.
Kevin Keable, Chair of EEEGR said: "We thank the Government, our local authorities and our partners in industry and education for the work so far. Now we ask for renewed commitment and focused support to unlock the full potential of this region, home to some of the UK's most critical energy infrastructure.
Norfolk Business Board members in attendance at the event were: Nick Steven-Jones, Chair and CEO of Jarrolds; Denise Hone, Senior Stakeholder Manager for the Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone; Cllr Kay Mason-Billig, Leader of Norfolk County Council; and Cllr Daniel Candon, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Growth at Great Yarmouth Borough Council.
Norfolk County Council's Head of Economic Development, Roberta Willner, and Head of Employment & Skills, Jan Feeney, were also present.
