Ambassadors Assemble!

On Wednesday 15 October at Applewood Hall in Banham more than 50 Norfolk business leaders who are passionate about championing their county, gathered for the inaugural Norfolk Ambassadors' breakfast.

Norfolk Ambassadors event

Hosted by the Norfolk Business Board, with hospitality kindly provided by the Goymour Group, the aim of the event was to inspire Norfolk Ambassadors, as well as equipping them with valuable information as they engage with other local businesses and, importantly, those outside the county.

The Norfolk Ambassadors Programme was launched earlier this year to amplify the voices of businesses so that Norfolk gets the national and international recognition and opportunities it deserves.  By providing a vital link between the business community and the Norfolk Business Board, Norfolk Ambassadors help ensure that opportunities, ideas and fresh perspectives are shared and optimised.

Nick Steven-Jones is chair of the Norfolk Business Board and welcomed the guests.

"One of the primary roles of a Norfolk Ambassador is to shout loudly about the true potential of Norfolk and what we need as a county to realise that potential," Nick explains.

"Norfolk is leading the way in many key sectors, such as agri-food, clean energy and fin-tech.  But many of us are so focused on our own areas of business that we miss the bigger picture and what makes our county truly unique and exciting.  The aim of today's event was to let Norfolk Ambassadors know what tools we are developing to help them advocate for Norfolk and to let them know what support and funding is available to help Norfolk businesses grow and flourish."

Adam Goymour, director of the Goymour Group and chair of the Norfolk Ambassadors steering group, shared his thoughts on why the role of Ambassadors is so critical.  He highlighted some of Norfolk's economic headlines and encouraged attendees to use their individual networks to spread positive business news and opportunities throughout different regions and sectors.

Jason Middleton, programmes manager of the New Anglia Growth Hub, told Ambassadors about the range of business support that is available to organisations throughout the county, and Titus Adam, assistant director of finance at Norfolk County Council, encouraged attendees to engage with the council's business rates consultation, part of which are used for business support programmes across the county.

Robin Milton, Norfolk Business Board member and the founder of Fairer Games, finished the event with a breakout session to get Ambassadors thinking about what makes their particular sectors distinctive or world-class, including identifying facts and figures that evidence this.  The information gathered will form part of a succinct tool-kit, so Ambassadors are always ready to represent Norfolk on a regional, national or international stage.

"Working alongside the Business Board, Norfolk Ambassadors come from a wide variety of backgrounds, but all have something in common: a genuine commitment to sharing their knowledge and connections to ensure Norfolk gets the recognition and national investment it deserves," concludes Nick Steven-Jones.
